A Daddy, His Daughter, and a Dance Recital...

Dance is unlike any other "sport".  In baseball, wrestling, basketball, and soccer, you get to "perform" what you practice pretty much every week at games that you can invite your family and friends to attend.  Dance is different.  You work all year with no opportunity to perform for your family and friends until the dance recital at the end of the year.

This year, the dance recital fell at a hard time for us.  Back at Christmas, Tom's parents told us that they would be taking us to Denver for a Rockies game in May.  I was really excited.  Tom and I went to Denver a few years ago for the same reason and had a blast.  However, a few months ago, we found out the Denver trip would be during Macy's dance recital.  I was ready to tell her that we wouldn't be going to the dance recital despite the fact that we had spent lots of money on lessons and a costume.  Keep in mind, asking Macy to miss her dance recital is like asking someone to give up their tickets to the Superbowl.  Tom was not really fond of the idea of making her skip something that she had signed up for, worked hard for, and loved so much.  He told her that whatever she wanted to do, we would do.  Of course, she chose her dance recital.  I tried many times to get Tom to go to Denver and I would stay with Macy for the recital, but he wasn't having it.  He told me that he wouldn't willing skip watching his daughter dance.  This is why I love him so much.  He knew it was important to Macy and even though we would have loved to go to Denver, and despite needing and wanting a vacation desperately, he gave it up for her.  Macy is lucky to have him as her daddy.

She did an amazing job at the recital.  She smiled and danced her little heart out.  I love to watch her because her love for it just beams from her face.  Good job Macy!  Daddy and I couldn't be more proud.

Preschool Graduation...

Not sure how we got to this point so fast, but here we are.

Macy graduated from preschool last week.  Sitting in the audience, I couldn't help but replay the last 5 years in my mind.  Her birth, her first birthday, talking, walking, potty training, starting preschool, etc.  I am SO stinkin' proud of this little girl.  It was so fun to watch her and see so many of her personality traits.  A few things that stood out:

She is a leader.
She is very polite.
She is smart.
She follows directions and is very obedient.
She always does her best.
She isn't afraid of an audience.
She has a tender-heart.
She is grown up.

She has made so many friends and learned so much.  Though I think she is ready to run out the door and start school, I don't think I'm quite so ready.  My baby girl no longer.  She has become a beautiful little girl and even though it is hard to accept that she is growing up, I can't wait to see what she will accomplish.  I know she will do wonderful things.

Witt at One Month

The past month has flown by.  I'm trying to savor the moments because I know from experience how fast kids grow up.  I don't want to forget or take for granted any of  these moments.

Witt at One Month:
  • He tolerates the swing.  Macy never even tolerated it.
  • He likes to be held...much more than he likes the swing.
  • He is a momma's boy.  Tom can hold him the exact same way that I do, and he cries.  As soon as I take him, he cuddles up on my chest and relaxes.
  • We've learned what his cries mean and what his face looks like when he is about to do his business.
  • He likes to suck!  If he doesn't have a bottle in his mouth, he wants a binkie.  If he doesn't have either, he is looking for his thumb.
  • He is a pretty good sleeper and sleeps 4-5 hour stretches in the night.
  • He is a good eater, eating 4 ounces at most feedings.
  • He hasn't lost any of his hair (which has a hint of red in it).
  • He loves to have his feet massaged.
  • He loves his baths.
  • He is already suffering from his first cold.  I took him to the doctor on his 4 week mark for the cold and he weighed 8 lbs 1 oz (up from 6 lb 11 oz at birth).

Reasons to Smile...

There are so many things during a normal day that bring a smile to my face.  Here are a few of those moments from today:
  1. Visiting with old friends.
  2. Holding Witt tight against my chest as he sleeps.
  3. Watching the daily dance recital put on by Macy.  Her favorite dance she has choreographed goes with the song "Rockin' the Beer Gut".  Classy, huh?
  4. Getting a random love-you-and-miss-you text from the man I still have a crush on.
  5. A Coke in Styrofoam with crushed ice.
  6. A nice, long soak in the bath tub.
  7. Family offering to help with little things.  My mom took some papers to the District Office for me today...grateful I didn't have to load the baby up and take him out in the cold.
I love this life of mine.  There are so many things that make me smile and I am certainly grateful for that.
